Remote Simultaneous Interpreting
The pandemic has made adjustments to the processes of organizing and holding international events — most of them are now held online. The situation with translators is the same — even simultaneous interpreters work remotely, from home or from specially equipped studios.
Although, there were some cases in which there was no sense to bring simultaneous interpreters thousands of kilometers for a short speech. Therefore, the service of simultaneous interpretation in Zoom or another application has been popular for a long time.
What is the difference between remote simultaneous interpretation and common interpretation
- Interpretating is performed using a special application;
- A simultaneous interpreter performs the interpretation remotely in another location — for example, in an equipped studio or at home;
- Participants of the event hear the translator through headphones connected to their smartphones, so they can also be anywhere.
The main condition, without which Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) is impossible — both the simultaneous interpreter and the event participants should have access to a special website or application. Most often, simultaneous translation is performed via Zoom.
